Site Location:

• Winchell Creek drainage
• Township 29 - Range 5 - W5

Description:

• Diverse valley and upland habitats
• grassy bluffs, springs, beaverpond complexes, boreal fens and aspen, spruce, and pine woodlands
• nationally rare birds including Great Grey Owl, and regionally uncommon birds including Common Loon, Townsend's Solitaire and McGillvray's Warbler
• significant breeding populations of Ring-necked Duck, a locally distributed species in Alberta
• includes Winchell Creek Natural Area
• active clearing is taking place in this unit

• one of the few diverse areas of upland and valley habitats in the County of Mountain View

Management Considerations:

• additional clearing, drainage and cultivation will further reduce the attractiveness of the area for a variety of wildlife
• heavy grazing reduces the significance of these habitats
